What we’re looking for 

A key member of the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Function (QHSE), you are accountable for leading the development and deployment of LR’s sustainability and environmental vision, strategy, policy and systems to enhance LR’s sustainability performance across the Group.

You will propose, and own (on behalf of the ELT), LR’s plan to get to Net Zero and associated Science Based Targets and raise the profile of environment and sustainability issues through championing appropriate improvement plans.

You will provide one source of truth for the QHSE Function, identifying trends in QHSE performance, driving continuous improvement through collaboration with stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, root causes of inefficiencies, and opportunities for innovation.

A key part of your role will require you to lead on the identification, evaluation, and implementation of tools and technologies that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness; optimising the use of these to streamline workflows, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve overall productivity across the organisation.

The role 

Sustainability and Environmental leadership

  • Lead and deliver an environmental sustainability vision, influencing and challenging organisational culture to improve sustainability performance and to translate the vision into a range of initiatives and processes that deliver behavioural change and sustainable solutions.
  • Lead and deliver work to support the promotion of LR’s sustainability credentials in the market, through contributing to LR’s Annual ESG and other associated reporting (UNGC, etc), as well as customer and other campaign communications.
  • Ensure transparency of LR's sustainability performance by owning and delivering the measurement, verification, analysis and reporting of environmental and sustainability performance providing verifiable data that is aligned to and in compliance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) reporting requirements.
  • Lead and oversee the maintenance of and co-ordinate of the emissions reduction plan in line with LRs long term science-based target and net zero ambitions.
  • Alongside the relevant ELT Sponsor, facilitate and co-ordinate the activities, as co-Chair, of the Sustainability Committee to ensure appropriate ownership, and delivery, of the corporate sustainability programme.
  • Engage and build effective relationships with key internal stakeholders and support functions to improve their understanding and buy-in to sustainability, the relevance to LR’s purpose and vision and to advance sustainability through innovative, exciting and engaging initiatives and communications.
  • Inspire and inculcate a bottom-up, employee driven culture of responsibility for sustainability and meeting associated commitments, focused on individual accountability, personal behaviours and acts.
  • Develop and share case studies and measure impacts of products/services that reflect environmental innovation and expertise to enhance external relations, promote LR’s leadership in this sector and share best practice across the business.
  • Ensure LR’s commitment to sustainability by benchmarking performance against internal and external measures to ensure compliance with both mandatory and voluntary standards and requirements.
  • Proactively keep up to date with environmental legislation, best practice and industry initiatives, ensuring LR remains at the forefront of sustainable practices.

SQHSE Operational Performance

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, quality, and (internal) customer satisfaction.
  • Lead a high performing global team across regional HSE operations, defining QHSE practices, improving process efficiency with a data-driven approach, as well as leading meaningful QHSE projects to support the business growth and functional needs.
  • •Ownership of Safety and Quality Committees agendas, papers and attendees in a manner that enables the fora to be purpose led.
  • Manage and oversee financial aspects relevant to the role, including the development of budgets and financial plans aligned with expected contract spend and overall budgetary planning. This will include providing oversight for Group QHSE Contracts and associated renewals, ensuring LR obtain the best value for money and performance.

QHSE Performance and Improvement

  • Lead and deliver operational programs to measure performance on critical metrics, identify and share best practice and implement cross-regional performance excellence programs.
  • Provision of leadership insight to implement change for improving operational performance, root cause trends and accident reductions post root cause removal.
  • Collaborate with and influence the QHSE LT to ensure the continuous improvement and implementation of the environmental, and H&S requirements of the HSES Management System and the group-wide ISO 14001 and 45001 environmental and H&S management systems certifications.
  • Drive the efficiency and effectiveness for group delivery tools; identifying areas for improvement and streamlining workflows to enhance efficiency ensuring technology evaluation optimises data, information and project management and delivery.

QHSE Programmes

  • Develop and implement programme management tools that enable the tracking of performance reporting and provide Functional dashboards & visualisation tools that enable monthly reporting on project progress, benefits and learnings and the identification of new and long-standing trends.

Health and Safety

  • Assess the risks and work in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health.
  • Manage your own compliance with health and safety rules, instructions, systems and legal requirements, ensuring employees are suitably trained and adequate resources are available to work safely.
  • Report in a timely manner all health and safety incidents, including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries, and raise any health and safety concerns with your line manager.

 What you bring 

  • Associate or Practitioner Member, Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment and working towards Full /Chartership level.
  • NEBOSH Diploma qualified with significant experience in Health and Safety Management (or equivalent) and degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (Environmental Science, Sustainability, etc).
  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Environmental Science, Sustainability, etc).
  • Significant experience in deploying Environmental and Health and Safety Management Systems and auditing of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and leadership experience in setting science-based targets, translating these into implementation plans and of delivering significant reductions in emissions, ideally within professional services.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation, both internally and externally, with excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in a multi-cultural environment and the ability to work across diverse and changing functions, and operate effectively within matrix reporting lines, to support the achievement of key performance indicators and goals.
  • Ability to manage a team of two to five, coach and mentor team members and achieve personal and team goals.
  • Demonstrate managerial qualities building effective teams, enabling the team to perform effectively and developing others.
  • Ability to embrace diversity and delegate supporting a culture of learning and development
  • Attentive listening and quickly developing trust with key stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Extremely literate in standard MS Office software packages
  • Excellent proficiency in the English language with ability to use the relevant terminology in the area of expertise.
