The Role Purpose:

  • To effectively manage operations for the Machinery Team to meet specific commercial/ business objectives and develop the business to improve Lloyd’s Register’s competitive position, and coordinate resources.
  • To manage and contribute day-to-day specialist knowledge within their discipline and/or lead in projects which provide commercially focussed support and or/service delivery to internal and/or external clients.
  • To determine solutions for problems, within their discipline, where the parameters are not well defined and where previous experience does not provide any precedent.
  • To lead 7 direct reports ensuring the team are clear about project goals and timelines, empowering and enabling others to perform at their best  
  • To undertake design appraisal, where needed, of a wide range of components on both existing and new construction vessels, primarily in the Marine and Defence sector.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to Lloyds Register’s internal and external stakeholders, by answering written queries or attending meetings.

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Be Degree qualified and preferably a member of a professional body, with an accreditation from one of the recognised institutions such as the IMechE or IMarEST.
  • Have a knowledge of classification society activities, IMO activities and the role of IACS.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to compliment the Machinery Team.
  • Have a good level of knowledge in most of the below areas.
    • Power and propulsion systems
    • Mechanical design and material properties
    • Two and four stroke engines design
    • Geartrains, vibration theory (torsional, lateral & axial)
    • Risk Assessments including HADIDs and HAZOPS
    • Finite element analysis

  • Ensure the team are clear about project goals and timelines, empowering and enabling others to perform at their best
