LR’s Insight team exists to inform and shape strategic & tactical decision-making to improve business performance.  We use our specialist skills in primary research, data analytics, customer, market & competitive intelligence to generate new understanding for the business.  We then use these insights to make a difference, actively engaging with key stakeholders across the globe, to solve business problems, gain focus and raise the bar.  Our work has impact and is embedded within strategic planning, thought leadership, segmentation & targeting, product, service & communications development, commercial & sales activity and customer experience.

 

The Market & Competitive Intelligence Lead is primarily focused on the Maritime part of our business and has a vital role to play in achieving our ambitions.  To stay ahead of competitors, we need a deep understanding of them, and the markets that we play in.  This role exists to develop, curate and share actionable understanding with decision-makers, in order that LR anticipates and responds with agility to evolving market opportunities & risks and provides market leading customer value.

You will

  • Create and establish a new suite of market & competitive intelligence capabilities to support data-driven decision making & business growth
  • Become the recognised subject matter expert for insightful market & competitor analysis for Maritime Compliance & Performance Services
  • Identify key market trends & developments & regularly scan the environment to assess their potential impact on LR’s strategic direction
  • Monitor the performance & activity of key competitors, to identify risks & opportunities both at an overall business level and for specific themes and segments 
  • Produce and distribute regular, high quality, accurate & well-written standardised reports that create strong market awareness & create a common knowledge base to help guide decisions
  • Prepare bespoke analytical research to support strategic projects, client advisory work, the development of competitively differentiated products, services, communications and effective go-to-market strategy
  • Develop, agree & deliver a forward plan for intelligence to meet priority stakeholder needs, balancing planned work with ad hoc demand
  • Monitor key drivers of market supply & demand & use forecasts and market data to inform business planning, sales targeting, performance monitoring & in-year management
  • Provide market & competitor analysis that will help improve LR’s win rate on new business pitches, grow key account relationships and develop effective sales campaigns
  • Establish an effective two-way exchange of intelligence with client & market-facing teams across the globe
  • Develop & maintain an effective knowledge management system to optimise the recording, categorisation, retrieval & sharing of insights with & by stakeholders
  • Working across the wider marketing team and business, ensure that market data is used accurately & consistently, for ‘one version of the truth’, with clear assumptions & documentation
  • Own and manage 3rd party competitive intelligence vendors, ensuring that we get good value for our investment in their services
  • Lead, manage and develop team members to build capacity and capability through recruitment, performance management, talent/succession planning, training and development to build and sustain a high-performance culture.

 

To be considered

  • Proven ability to analyse market trends, competitor strategies, performance, developments & products, drawing together data from multiple sources, to deliver actionable intelligence
  • Strong experience and evidence of using marketing tools, models and presentation methods 
  • Evidence of positive impact on decision-making, strategy development & commercial performance
  • Expertise & practical experience in the Maritime sector would be a significant advantage
  • Exceptional communication skills to articulate the results of analyses clearly to stakeholders at all levels, building engagement & commitment to action
  • Results driven, self-motivated and tenacious; able to work autonomously and collaborative team player
  • An MBA or experience in a strategy role is preferred
  • Demonstrable experience of people management and leadership skills with significant experience of successfully implementing sound people management practices (including recruitment, employee engagement, development and retention) to establish a high performance and client focused organisation.
