What we’re looking for 

Acting as a Lloyd’s Register bridge to the external world, the Media Relations Lead will share insight into LR activity and build brand awareness by fostering strong relationships with journalists (trade and mainstream), thought leaders, and trade associations. 

Reporting to the External Communications Director, the Media Relations Lead will manage PR plans and external relationships to ensure messaging and proactive and reactive press activity align with LR’s overall strategy.

Working closely with colleagues across LR, the Media Relations Lead will support the classification, advisory, and LR One Ocean’s commercial objectives while simultaneously building LR’s brand as a trusted adviser across the ocean economy.

The role 

  • Support the creation of strategic communication plans, devising and delivering PR activity that is aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage reactive and proactive media inquiries, ensuring prompt responses, coordinating subject matter expert input and drafting stories, using third-party writing support when necessary to deliver proactive news stories and features, and ensuring that all activity is logged in our project management tool.
  • Preparation and dispatch of press releases – sourcing information, material, and assets, drafting LR quotes and getting third-party quotes/approval, working with all relevant stakeholders to get sign-off, and sharing these outputs on LR channels. This will include the production of interview briefs in advance of planned activity.
  • Management and optimization of the LR media contacts database to ensure it is accurate and can easily be segmented to target specific sectors/specialisms and geographies.
  • Management and updating of the annual forward features schedule so that the product / strategic content teams are aware and can collaborate on relevant opportunities.
  • Track, deliver, and store PR campaigns and agreed monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics so that the team can measure its success.
  • Working with colleagues in the External Relations team to produce LR’s flagship thought leadership magazine and support its evolution to a web-first product, including managing a third-party designer, creating flat plans and running orders, commissioning, writing, and editing copy, and offering support with image sourcing while securing any relevant permissions (third party, SMES, etc).
  • Working alongside the External Communications Director and team colleagues to manage relationships with relevant external organizations and influencers, developing synopses for events, supporting speaker recruitment, and supplying required assets.
  • When required, the Media Relations Lead will work to heal negative events that impact LR’s brand reputation and perception. This includes issue monitoring and management, and crisis communications.

 

What you bring 

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd's Register is highly desirable
  • Experience in managing and delivering strategic communication programs with demonstrable, measurable results
  • At least five years experience in a communication/public relations environment
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry with a desire to foster strong media and stakeholder relationships supporting the positive positioning of LR positively across the sector
  • Ability to combine strategic thinking/planning with day-to-day execution and reporting
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrating a diplomatic and collaborative approach
