What we are looking for

 

  • To contribute specialist knowledge within their discipline, manage projects which provide commercially focussed support and/or service delivery to internal and external clients.  To provide technical support to the Marine and Offshore Materials Manager in developing the capability and skills of the department to deliver an increased range of services, products and training courses.  In addition, the NDE Lead NDE Specialist will be expected to determine solutions to problems where previous experience gives no precedent and resolve complex issues in design and manufacture that involve NDE and represent LR in the industry and regulatory developments involving NDE.
  • The role may also include managing projects, providing technical support, consultancy and verification services to manufacturers, shipyards and suppliers to ensure continued compliance with Classification Rules, procedures and industry codes or standards.

The Role 

 

  • Manage projects within the discipline and ensure they are in accordance with quality system requirements, cost structures and budgetary/contractual requirements.
  • Assess/recommend the time/value of the work to be undertaken for internal/external clients within agreed fee/cost structures.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue CPD and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness and ensure provision of consistent technical advice whilst promoting best practices across MNDE disciplines.
  • Mentor / coach other employees, as appropriate, to enable effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Make recommendations based on internal/external client feedback assisting in service delivery improvement.
  •  Provide specialist support / advice within the discipline to internal/external clients.
  • Ensure findings or corrective actions from technical audits and reviews are effectively implemented.
  • Discuss/present the deliverable with the internal / external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake on-site verification work, as required, for internal/external clients and provide reports on the findings.
  • Perform assessments of global NDE service providers and provide certification as appropriate.
  • Update and maintain the Lloyd’s Register Rules and regulations for NDE, and to ensure that emerging technologies are assessed/validated for acceptance.
  • Provide/develop formal technical training, both internally to LR personnel and external clients.
  • Monitor developments in NDE and produce reports into novel or new NDE methods and applications.
  • Participate in internal and joint industry research projects.

 

What you bring

 

  • A degree, or equivalent, in engineering, in addition to practical NDE qualifications and experience.
  • Hold Level III ISO 9712 certification in multiple, and at least 3, NDE methods, to include conventional and advanced Ultrasonic inspections.  Further training will be available to gain additional Level III certification in other methods.
  • • Consideration will be given to candidates holding lower educational qualifications but possessing extensive industrial experience and a minimum of 4 Level II and 2 Level III NDE qualifications who are seeking to advance their certification further.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution to Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working toward obtaining this.
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
  • In-depth experience of the marine (Preferred) or other industries relating to fabrication and in-service inspection.
  • Demonstrated advancement in various roles.
  • Practical ability to review / develop NDE procedures for routine and novel techniques and inspections.
  • Experience of using both conventional and advanced Ultrasonic equipment and reviewing associated reports.
  • Computer literate and capable of compiling detailed technical reports of investigations, validations, site audits and novel NDE methods.
  • For UK based candidates, the right, or ability to obtain the right, to work in the UK.
