Lead Specialist – Risk Assessment & Alternative Fuels

Competitive salary plus excellent benefits

Location: flexible

Are you an engineer with a broad knowledge of risk assessment and major accident hazards? Make a move to Lloyd’s Register and you’ll be influencing one of the most exciting, impactful and technically challenging aspects of marine engineering, in a world trying to halt the effects of climate change.

About the role
In response to the climate crisis, the shipping industry is replacing fuel oil with alternative fuels like hydrogen and ammonia. This places challenges in storage, processing and use. Our clients are moving at pace in adopting these fuels and new technologies, intensifying the challenges for safe implementation. You’ll be instrumental in helping overcome these challenges.

The technology involved is new to the maritime industry – and there are currently few prescriptive regulations to ensure safety. Your role will be to help develop them by identifying practical and effective safeguards. In short, you will review the adequacy of risk assessments used to justify designs and in so doing help develop the rules to ensure safe adoption of new fuels and technologies. You’ll also regularly engage with our specialists and clients - ship owners, regulators and shipyards – as a trusted expert in risk assessment and major accident hazards.

About you
You’ll need a degree in chemical engineering/chemistry (or similar) and preferably a research degree from a recognised tertiary organisation. You’ll also need proficiency in English commensurate with the work, membership of an appropriate professional institution, and an extensive relevant track record in risk assessment application, ideally within maritime, offshore and/or transport. You will also be experienced in influencing others, possessing an ability to think strategically with a results-driven approach. Your location isn’t as important as your expertise.

The rewards

Opportunities to apply your skills and experience to make a valuable and tangible impact on a global scale don’t come along every day. Should you be up to the challenge, we offer a competitive salary and impressive benefits package. You’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing your work will make a difference, operating at the centre of one of the most exciting, impactful and technically challenging aspects of engineering in the maritime industry.
