Job Title: Product Marketing Manager

Location: Southampton, UK

Position Type: Regular Employee

Role purpose:

The product marketing manager (PMM) leads the go-to-market strategy. This includes capturing and providing market insights as part of the vision and roadmap development as well as messaging that goes together with the launch, so that our maritime colleagues and customers are excited about our products.

The individual will collaborate cross functionally within the business to develop innovative programs that drive demand. An attention to detail and eye for quality are critical to your success, along with an ability to grasp and present our product’s value proposition in a way that resonates and clearly articulates how we solve our buyers’ problems.

In addition to the marketing team, the Product Marketing Manager will regularly collaborate with product managers, sales channels and service delivery; it’s a balancing act that requires strong diplomatic skills, including knowing when to push back and when to dive in.

The product marketing manager knows our competitors like the back of your hand: what they do today and what they plan to do in the future as well as the industry/segment we serve. The PMM also know our buyers and colleagues better than they know themselves, including how they make their buying decisions and what tools they need to deliver a service. This isn’t guesswork. The PMM backs up back up strategic insights with market evidence and then uses that knowledge to drive the development of positioning and messaging that resonates with colleagues, buyers and empowers our sales channels to be successful.

Key Responsibilities:

Market intelligence—be the expert on our buyers, who are they, how they buy and their key buying criteria.

Take responsibility for Primary and secondary market research for XXX supported by the market insight team. Primary research (directly with customers) to be conducted with agreed design-driven Product Management process. Secondary research with analysts and data sources to qualify hypotheses.

Understand the competitive landscape—be an expert on our competition and how they are positioned

Collaborate with the wider product function, marketing and commercial teams to develop product positioning and messaging that resonate with our target buyer personas.

Understand and document our colleagues and buyer’s process, including where they get information, and the who, what, when and why behind the decisions they make. Then drive changes to our sales and marketing processes based on what you learn.

Develop a marketing plan for the products you support in conjunction with our marketing team, including key activities and budgets to support the retention of existing customers and the acquisition of new customers.

Assess the effectiveness of the marketing programs that support your products on an ongoing basis, and report back to the business on required changes.

Plan the launches of net-new products and releases of existing products and manage the cross-functional implementation of the plan (internal to our colleagues and external to our customers).

Act together with the Product Manager as thought leader for the products you support externally, including speaking engagements and written works.

Understand and support our sales channels; train them on the problems we solve for our buyers and users; develop internal tools and external collateral and teach them how and when to use it.

Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Eliminate or minimise employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment, and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LR activities.

Manage your own and your team's compliance with health and safety rules, instructions, systems, and legal requirements, ensuring employees are suitably trained and adequate resources are available to work safely.
