The Marine and Offshore Software team is looking for a Product Owner to support and develop our Marine software solutions.

 

You will possess the drive, enthusiasm and ambition to form part of a dynamic team. You need to be willing to embrace challenges and will have the opportunity to contribute to the future shape and direction of the team and products.

 

Role purpose

 

Be the link between the Product Manager, Technical Expert, Customer and Development team. Take the high-level vision from the Product Manager and flesh out the next level of detail (detailed requirements) by gathering information from users and stakeholders of the software so that the development team can develop against those.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • To work closely within the software development teams to ensure they build the right functionality in a timely manner.
  • To work with product managers   , customer representatives and software product experts to translate the high-level vision of the product into detailed user stories and/or requirements, with relevant acceptance criteria.
  • To seek to understand the needs of the internal and external users of the system, and clarify and validate the requirements through demos, surveys, questionnaires and other means necessary.
  • To define the usability and high-level mock-ups of new features.
  • To capture detailed functional and non-functional requirements for the software.
  • To help to prioritise items based on business goals and product vision.
  • To be the single point of contact for the development teams regarding business requirements, user story clarification and priorities.
  • To contribute to the product’s documentation.

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements

 

  • Possession of a degree in Computer Science, Physical Sciences or a relevant numerical/engineering subject.
  • Significant experience in agile software development as a business analyst or product owner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources
  • Ability to take strategic direction from executive management; Initiative
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Familiarity with requirements techniques such as, user stories, use cases, and informal modelling.
  • Ability to facilitate a team to consensus on scope, design decisions, and implementation decisions
  • Experience of BDD, Gherkin would be an advantage.
  • Experience of development of technical engineering or mathematical/scientific software would be an advantage.
