Senior Software Developer

The Marine and Offshore Software team is looking for a Senior Software Developer to support and develop our Marine software solutions.

Role purpose

 

Design and create source code and unit tests for large and/or complex tasks, at the required standard without supervision.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Work with stakeholders (product owners, developers, engineers and testers) to implement requirements into well-designed software solutions with an eye on scalability, quality, performance and maintainability.
  • Find and test new ways of improving existing software designs and solutions aiming for higher performance in terms of speed, data size and speed.
  • Collaborate with other software developers to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain the product.
  • Research and use most effective code structure and design patterns for the task at hand.
  • Develop software code and unit tests competently and in accordance to agreed standards.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, attending daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint review and sprint retrospective meetings.
  • Effectively understand, capture, interpret and break down customer’s needs with the support of architect, subject matter expert and the product owner.
  • Effectively estimate work items and ensure delivery of sprints that have been planned based on these timescales.
  • Proactively contribute to improvements in the team’s agile process.
  • Pro-actively contribute to the technical development of other software developers.

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements

 

  • Qualification in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, or engineering.
  • Respected and proven experience in software development in a commercial environment.
  • Good level of experience software application development using C++
  • Experience in C# development using .NET Core
  • Experience of Python, numpy, MFC, Fortran would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and practice of SOLID OO-design principles and design patterns
  • Experience in TDD, creating and maintaining unit tests including mocking
  • Experience in reviewing and testing development code
  • Experience of working within agile software development environment
  • Ability and willingness to learn domain knowledge
  • Marine and/or mathematical background an advantage. Specifically wave analysis, spectral analysis, seakeeping, FEA and fatigue analysis and statistical skills, would be an advantage
  • Experience with Azure DevOps would be an advantage.
