Lloyd’s Register (LR) Maritime Professional Services (MPS) help maritime clients around the world to achieve their business goals by improving asset performance, optimising safety, and enhancing sustainability. In addition to providing professional technical / engineering advisory services, our clients are increasingly requesting that LR leverage its deep knowledge of the industry and evolving regulatory legislation to support them in environmental and sustainability advisory services. These services include supporting clients in energy efficiency technology selection, sustainable energy source assessments, life cycle analysis (LCA) and regulatory impact studies. 

 

This role will be within the Performance, Design and Environment (PDE) advisory group of MPS which provides the maritime value chain with a comprehensive portfolio of advisory services associated with decarbonisation, vessel design, and environmental sustainability. The PDE group works closely with all LR professional services groups to provide holistic and meaningful solutions to our client’s unique challenges. 

 

The successful candidate for this role will have a passion for shipping sustainability and technology, strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills and an inquisitive mind willing to learn about new technologies. The individual will join the global network of 4,000+ talented LR colleagues and provide specialist advisory services to ship owners, charterers, non-governmental organisations and the shipping finance community in the areas of sustainability, alternative fuels and new shipping technology.
 

What you will do:

  • Undertake project work as agreed with stakeholders (either individually or as part of a team), including providing progress updates to project stakeholders, requesting and exchanging information with clients, preparing and presenting project deliverables.
  • Undertake project management and administrative tasks according to established procedures and take responsibility for monitoring project progress, spend against budget, contract requirements and project closure, with emphasis on quality and timing. When necessary, informing project stakeholders of any threats to successful on-time and on budget project completion.
  • Provide clear, well-written technical reports and discuss / present the deliverables with the internal / external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard and review the work of others when required.
  • Manage clients’ needs in a confident, professional manner.
  • Support the development of innovative services and products that meet clients’ current and emerging challenges.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice to key clients.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams drawing on wider Lloyd’s Register resources to deliver integrated solutions to key clients.
  • Through identification and quantification of client challenges, develop clear and compelling technical and commercial value propositions for both external and internal stakeholders within an agreed fee / cost structure.
  • Support business development with opportunity identification, proposal development, direct and indirect marketing.
  • Improve service delivery by communicating internal / external client feedback as appropriate.
  • Maintain and develop a business network with key contacts (clients, universities, institutions, suppliers, competitors, internal colleagues, etc.) and be able to present LR’s full range of PDE advisory services to clients.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
  • Mentor / coach other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.

 

What you will need:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme). A post graduate degree in engineering (MSc, MEng, or PhD) is not required but would be an asset.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • An understanding of the maritime industry, associated regulations and markets
  • Demonstrable knowledge in carbon/GHG accounting, ESG/Sustainability reporting, climate risk management, and life-cycle analysis would be an asset.
  • Strong consultancy and engineering-oriented mindset
  • Flexibility to take on new challenges with an enquiring mind
  • The ability to work on your own or as part of a team on larger projects.
  • Proven ability in the project management process, gained through experience, involving complex projects and stakeholder relationships
  • Proficiency in the English Language with excellent writing skills
