As a Software Developer for concept development, you’ll play a key role in our Scrum teams. You’ll develop software with big data and big compute cloud applications. This isn’t developing in an ivory tower; this is creating technology that has serious commercial clout for our customers.


Software Developer’s key responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders (product owners, developers, engineers and testers to design and develop new engineering requirements into product concepts and working prototypes
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to convert real-world concepts and ideas into actionable numeric algorithms in code and user interface designs.
  • Ideate and test new ways to improve existing software designs and solutions; aim for higher performance in terms of speed, data size and simulation time 
  • Collaborate with other software developers to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain embedded applications within the product
  • Participate in Agile development activities, attending daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint review and sprint retrospective meetings
  • Understand, capture, interpret and break down customer’s needs with the support of the architect, subject matter expert and the product owner
  • Estimate task lengths and ensure delivery of sprints based on those timescales
  • Proactively contribute to improvements in the team’s agile process
  • Proactively contribute to the technical development of other software developers


As a Software Developer you’ll have:

  • Qualification in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, or engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of modelling and simulation of complex numerical systems; parallel programming and collaborative software development; and, methods to organise, explore, visualise, process, and analyse very large data sets
  • Experience in designing solutions for web applications on Azure, Big Data, Big Compute, Cloud computing, HPC
  • Experience in software concept designing and development, desirably in scientific and engineering domain.
  • Experience in C# development using .NET Core, C++, Python, NumPy, MFC, Fortran 
  • Experience of product development, where you have worked with others in an agile development environment; awareness of Agile software development values and principles; experience using Scrum frameworks
  • Proactive self-starter; self-organised with a team player attitude; strive to learn more and new skills; able to roll up your sleeves and help any team member when needed
  • Good communication and influencing skills; good presentation and time management skills
  • Excellent and demonstratable analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Perform in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities
  • A genuine interest and curiosity for all things digital, data, and for digital transformation of the traditional practices in the maritime industry
