What we’re looking for 

 

We are seeking a Non-Metallics Specialist to join our Marine Materials Group within the Global Technical Support Office. This role is based at our Southampton Global Technology Centre in the UK, where our core team of specialists is located. The ideal candidate will work closely with a team of expert colleagues and technical support offices to oversee product qualification test requirements and certification activities, ensuring compliance with our Rules and Regulations. Additionally, the role involves contributing to key Research and Technology projects, driving innovation and excellence within the field.

The role 

 

  • Assess complex non-metallic materials problems for internal and external clients, navigating situations where parameters are unclear and devising solutions without precedents.
  • Manage commercial and R&D projects, ensuring alignment with budget constraints and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct in-depth assessments and offer specialized advice for service delivery, research, or development work within established parameters, including budgetary and contractual considerations.
  • Produce deliverables in suitable formats within agreed parameters, and review the work of other employees upon request.
  • Engage in discussions and presentations with senior-level internal and external clients regarding deliverables, providing alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Handle administrative tasks in accordance with existing processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend the time and value of work for internal and external clients within agreed fee structures and commercial contract aspects.
  • Utilize internal and external client feedback to inform service delivery improvements and contribute to business development.
  • Contribute to internal and external client management activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Mentor and coach other technical employees to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Undertake project management duties as applicable, including monitoring project progress and expenditures against budget and contractual requirements.

 

 

What you bring 

 

. A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) – Degree    encompassing Materials Science, or Physical Sciences with a large focus on non-metallic materials or coatings.
 

. Minimum of 2 years industrial experience ideally gained in marine or related area working with coatings and/or non-metallic materials.
 

· Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
 

· Demonstrable knowledge and practice of the chemistry and formulation of marine coatings and/or engineering polymers, including manufacturing processes and applications.

 

· Understanding of the design, manufacture and certification aspects of engineering polymers, coatings and/or non-metallic materials.
 

· Demonstrable understanding of the Project Management process, gained through experience and training.
 

· Membership of an appropriate professional institution preferred.
 

· Familiarity with IT software including database operation.
 

· Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
