What does the role offer?

In this varied role you will be responsible for the design appraisal (and in some cases also consultancy) of various ship types to various statutory codes, Lloyd’s Register Rules & Regulations and International/National Standards in a consistent and timely manner for both new construction and conversions projects. The work is office based from our office in Southampton, UK, but you will occasionally be required local traveling to shipyards and you might be requested to take part in negotiations or meetings with shipyards, flag administration and kick-off meetings with clients.

 

What do you need?

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
  • In-depth knowledge of stability, load line and tonnage regulations.
  • Knowledge and user experience with the NAPA, RHINO and SEASAFE software.

Your duties will include:

  • Preparation of the associated correspondence in accordance with the applicable procedures and liaison with clients.
  • To provide technical advice to internal and external clients.
  • To deal with business queries and build relationships with internal and external clients, as appropriate, to resolve service problems and help build the business.
  • To mentor/coach team members, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To liaise with other business areas/offices to ensure consistency in development and delivery of business/commercial services to internal and external clients.
  • To perform Stability, Load Line & Tonnage plan approvals for all aspects of marine vehicles.
  • To perform complex assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • The above job description does not preclude the assignment of other duties by the SLT Team Lead or the Global SLT Manager.
