The role 

As the Survey Policy Senior Specialist, you will maintain and develop the technical reference material for Surveyors and update it in accordance with internal and external requirements. You will also support in the delivery, maintenance and development of Lloyd's Register’s ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring as well as in the development of how Classification is delivered and in future related products.

 

You will: 

  • Assess IACS/IMO publications and Rule amendment proposals for possible amendments to Part 1 Regulations, Survey Checklists and/or Marine Survey Procedures Manual, and make relevant amendments.
  • Support in the development of future class and certification, accommodating new technologies and digitalisation.
  • Provide ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring guidance and support to Surveyors and external clients.
  • Undertake approval of ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring submissions for individual vessels, when required.
  • Manage, evaluate and update the global procedures and processes for ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring approvals.
  • Review and report on statistics regarding the ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring fleet.
  • Develop and deliver ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring training and presentations, to internal and external clients.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of LR’s machinery maintenance products and strategy. Monitor developments in the industry and with competitors relating to machinery maintenance and classification and play an active role in future investigation and development.
  • Be responsible for ownership and maintenance of ShipRight Machinery Planned Maintenance and Condition Monitoring certificate and checklist templates.
  • Support the Machinery Survey Policy Manager and Global Head Of Technology – Survey & Inspection and undertake actives as directed.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of team processes.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.

You will need: 

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a senior certificated ship’s officer.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Knowledge of marine classification and statutory processes and procedures, commensurate with practical experience of surveys of a wide variety of ship types.
  • Detailed understanding of main propulsion and power generation arrangements and on-board machinery systems.
  • A practical, adaptable and well organised approach - and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • The ability and confidence to review processes and procedures and make changes as required.   
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work – and to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills – we are a business based on people and relationships as much as technical expertise.
