What we’re looking for 

 

The role is for the position of Power Generation Specialist within our Technical Directorate team to support of the development of LR’s Rules and Regulations for the design and construction of ships and offshore installations and associated products and services. Whilst the Technical Directorate team is largely based at the Southampton Global Technology Centre, UK, the successful candidate could report to the team remotely and be based in another location.

 

The Power Generation Specialist will be focused on ensuring the safe integration of Power Generation technologies, including emissions management equipment, for use onboard ships and offshore installations for both propulsion power generation and for auxiliary power generation applications.

The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge and practical experience of engine technology and associated fuel reforming and emissions abatement technology gained in an engine manufacturing environment together with detailed knowledge and practical experience of maritime regulatory development. The emissions management knowledge will include SCR and EGR technologies for NOx control, but also technologies for the management of other GHG and harmful emissions such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ammonia. Knowledge of the operation of engines on gases, low-flashpoint, synthetic and zero carbon fuels would be a distinct advantage.

The role

 

  • Provide Power Generation and emissions technology expertise to technology development projects in support of the development of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Review the results of Power Generation and emissions related activities in support of the development of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Assimilate the results of Power Generation and emissions related activities in support of the development of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Provide Power Generation and emissions technology input to the technology development plan and roadmap to support the development of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Provide Power Generation and emissions technology input to regulatory development activities to support the development of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Provide Power Generation and emissions technology support and guidance both internally, to LR’s Technical Specialists, Surveyors, business development, commercial teams, etc. and externally, to LR’s clients.
  • Disseminate Power Generation and emissions knowledge and experience internally through training, presentation, guidance, advice etc. to support the development of internal capability and support the delivery of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Communicate Power Generation and emissions technology knowledge and experience externally through client meetings, workshops, seminars, webinars etc. to support the introduction of the technology within the industry and support the delivery of decarbonisation related products and services.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Power Generation and emissions technology developments across the industry.
  • Provide Power Generation and emissions technology representation to industry bodies, industry associations and industry working groups including regulatory development, standards development, technology development, etc.

 

 

What you bring 

 

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science.
  • Prior experience with marine, offshore or industrial power generation and emissions management technologies.
  • Prior experience in an engine manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience of maritime regulatory development, in particular the IMO, IACS and Classification Society Rules and Regulations.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Excellent command of the English Language.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer apps and tools.
