Role Summary:

As Ship Structures Specialist, you will  be part of the LR Technical Support Office and will work in a team of Engineers, supporting through technical expertise both internal and external Clients in the Marine and Offshore Industry, reviewing Structural Design of Mega Yachts and other Ship Structures.

Having a passion for your discipline, you can become an expert in the field and share your expertise with our clients. This will require a development plan which will be put in place from the start of the journey with LR.

In this role you will need to have like working both independently and as part of a team, as well as represent Lloyd's Register in meetings with clients both in the office and  at Site.

Main Responsibilities:

The key element of the scope of this role is to use your expertise to perform assessments and provide solutions to problems that internal and external clients are facing. 

  • Perform assessments and provide experienced advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format.
  • Assess / recommend the time / value of the work to be undertaken for an internal / external client within an agreed fee / cost structure.
  • Discuss / present the deliverable with the internal / external client and suggest alternative solutions, where appropriate.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness of the latest updates in area of expertise.
  • You may also being engaged in the role of coordinating and monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.


Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Assess the risks and ensure working in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises safety or health standards for yourself or others.
  • Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns to your line manager. 


Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering .
  • Perferably two to four (2 to 4) years of working experience in the ships / Mega Yachts Structures Design will be a plus in your application.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Excellent command (written and oral) in English language using relevant professional terminology


Preferred but not required:

  • Previous experience in a classification society and exposure to Marine & Offshore field is highly preferred.

  • Responds positively to learning opportunities and is comfortable stepping out of own comfort zone. Has willingness to learn new programming languages and frameworks as needed (training and mentoring will be provided)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
