Role purpose:

The Maritime Decarbonisation hub is a LR Foundation funded programme with the purpose to accelerate the decarbonisation of the maritime sector through providing evidence based insight to enable informed decision making and building partnerships to unlock barriers in transition pathways to innovate and demonstrate routes to scale.

The Hub produces research, evidence -based insight for stakeholders in the maritime ecosystem including government and finance, covering sustainability in everything from energy sources to onboard low carbon technologies.


In the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, we quantify the impact of these new technologies and processes on climate change, emissions, and business models. This role will help and support in understanding the underlying economics of processes, analysing the impacts of policy, and covering company activities and business strategies. Providing analytical skills to identify areas of impact and providing data insight for new technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform research, analysis and projects both independently and part of the team to develop the interface between technology, investment, safety and sustainability of transition pathways.
  • Research, maintain and analyse trends in the readiness levels of zero-carbon fuel supply chains with a specific focus on the low carbon technologies for maritime transport and energy supply.
  • Maintain, update and build upon LR’s existing data sets and models to ensure that the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub is continuously a leader in the field
  • Perform technical analysis and modelling of costs and emissions in order to inform transition pathway strategies.
  • Contribute towards producing thematic reports to influence and shape the narrative, enhancing LR’s brand and its clients understanding enabling decision-making.
  • Project manage, design, coordinate and deliver aspects of any projects assigned to them
  • Contribute towards creating products and services to assist our stakeholders to progress their understanding and transition to zero carbon fuels
  • Work with the Hub to deliver the Programme objectives and form professional judgements based on evidence by actively participating in the strategy and plan
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to communicate and provide state of the art analysis on trends in investment, market and technology for future fuels
  • Effectively communicate findings and engaging with clients and other external stakeholders to support and provide advice on the transition pathways to zero carbon fuels



Key skills and experience:

  • Analysis of shipping fleet data for both technology and ship movement
  • Strong quantitative skills; comfortable with large datasets and building Excel models and tools based on programming languages.
  • Experience in project management methodologies and being able to contribute and lead project activity
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work
  • Written and verbal communication skills, ability to articulate clearly and concisely and graphically present data
  • Experience of gathering and analysing tend data and insights with the ability to produce relevant presentations and graphical visuals to represent the findings
  • Results driven, self-motivated and tenacious; able to work autonomously or as a collaborative team player
